FEBRUARY IS ECO-MONTH AT PFI. To celebrate, PFI is pleased to announce a collaboration with one of the nation’s rising textile designers, Tricia Langman. British-born Langman has designed for Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Halston and Donna Karan.
Her collections have been featured at Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of New York City. She created a hand-painted designer gown for Celine Dion to wear at the Grammy’s. Locally, she created a collection for Pendleton Home under the Tricia Langman label.
Take advantage of her insights and skills in four textile design weekend workshops:
Textile Design 1: Hand painting and dyeing. Use dyeing techniques of the past to create scarfs and fabrics. Learn tie-dye and hand painting techniques, shibori, over-dyeing, rust dyeing, vegetable dyeing and batik.
Textile Design 2: Fabric printing. Produce fabric samples, a length of fabric and create surface designs suitable for garments or home decor. Learn screen-printing, stenciling and devoré, Japanese katazome printing, block and mono printing techniques.
Textile Design 3: Print workshop. Paint and draw textiles like florals and conversationals. Learn about composition and techniques and how to research and paint images ready for scanning on the computer.
Textile Design 4: Sustainable textiles. Learn in a mix of lecture and a practice lab. Make leather out of seaweed and mushrooms. Use fibers to weave, felt and color with natural plant dyes.
